Details

Explore your unique energy patterns through a one-on-one consultation with an accredited herbalist, then create a custom herbal blend from our selection of 40 USDA certified organic and third-party tested herbs — through the hands-on process of weighing, grinding, brewing, and packing. You will bring home insights about your well-being through the lens of Chinese healing traditions.

How it Works

Step 1: The Observation
Your session begins with a visual tongue assessment by a Silver Root herbalist, a traditional observational practice used in Chinese herbal culture for centuries, used alongside other inputs to understand your unique energy pattern.

Step 2: Decipher Your Energy Pattern
Your herbalist walks you through a well-being questionnaire, learning about your daily rhythms — sleep, digestion, energy levels, mood, and more. The information gathered helps your herbalist build a complete picture of where your energy is right now.

Step 3: Your Unique Blend
Your herbalist hand-selects a combination of dried herbs chosen specifically for you. As each herb is selected, they share its origin and its place in Chinese herbal tradition, so you leave understanding not just what is in your blend, but why.

Step 4: Taste Your Blend
A pot of freshly brewed organic herbal tea made from your custom blend is prepared for you to enjoy at the bar.

Step 5: Come Back Anytime
Following traditional ways, you are encouraged to visit us again for follow up appointments or simply come in to enjoy a pot of your unique herb blend at any time. We want to continue to support your well-being while we are here.

The Science

TCM approaches the body as an interconnected system — Qi, Yin-Yang balance, and the Five Phases form a framework for understanding how symptoms relate to underlying patterns rather than isolated causes. It is one of the oldest continuously practiced medical traditions, and one that modern research is increasingly in conversation with.

Contemporary studies suggest TCM herbs work through multi-target biological pathways — anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroendocrine — producing effects that are difficult to replicate with single-compound interventions. The mechanisms are still being mapped, but the clinical tradition behind them is long and well-documented.

What Makes This Unique?

For the first time, Silver Root Apothecary, which is driven by its mission for TCM education and a team of Chinese females with diverse backgrounds, has arrived outside of China, landing right in the heart of NYC's SoHo. While this is a sensory experience, we treat TCM with deep reverence at every step, from herb selection, to staff training, to our consultation with you.

While most modern TCM clinics and hospitals consultations last barely 10 minutes, ours is designed to go far deeper to encourage long-lasting behavioral changes and actionable insights rooted in TCM.

We source all-certified-organic Dao Di herbs, a rarity even within China and nearly impossible to find in New York.

The majority of our tools, jars, and vessels were handpicked intentionally in China with sustainability in mind.

FAQs

Do I need to be unwell to book?

Not at all. TCM is as much a preventative practice as a responsive one. The goal is maintaining balance before symptoms arise. Think of it as regular maintenance rather than a last resort.

Are the herbs safe?

All herbs are sourced and examined with care. Third-party lab reports are available for every herb at the Qi Bar, verifying the absence of contaminants, pesticide residues, and heavy metals, and confirming active compound levels. Every herb and dosage is selected to minimize side effects. Some guests notice mild, temporary shifts in digestion, bowel movements, urination, or menstruation, which typically reflect the herbs working with the body's natural processes. If anything feels concerning, please email us at hello@113spring.com

Do I need to know TCM beforehand?

No prior knowledge needed. The experience is designed for newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts alike, educating as we go. Practitioners are welcome too.

Can I come alone or bring someone?

Both work well. Solo visits offer the most focused one-on-one time with the herbalist. If you'd like to share the experience, we recommend coming with one other person, as it' can be a meaningful way to understand your patterns alongside someone you know.

Is the experience vegan and gluten-free?

Our herbs are vegan-friendly and gluten-free. If you have specific dietary restrictions, let us know in advance.
