Few artists have shaped the landscape of ambient and meditative music like Laraaji.

Discovered by Brian Eno while performing in Washington Square Park, Laraaji went on to become a defining voice in ambient music while also developing a joyful spiritual practice centered on laughter, sound, and presence.

In this rare playshop, Laraaji shares one of his most beloved practices: laughter meditation — a playful, uplifting experience that blends chanting, guided laughter, breath release, gentle movement, and live musical accompaniment. Together, these simple practices create a powerful shift in energy, helping release tension, open the breath, and awaken a sense of lightness and connection.

Expect an experience that is interactive, surprising, and deeply joyful — part meditation, part musical happening, and part collective celebration of laughter.

Laraaji’s sessions create a space where sound, humor, and presence come together — reminding us that joy itself can be a spiritual practice.

How it works

This interactive playshop unfolds as a playful group journey guided by Laraaji’s voice and live musical presence.

Participants move through a series of joyful and participatory practices that may include:

• call-and-response chanting
• guided laughter waves and playful vocal exercises
• breath release and light-language sound play
• spontaneous humor and group interaction
• gentle grounding movement and dance
• ambient musical accompaniment
• deep relaxation and integration

The atmosphere is informal, welcoming, and participatory. No prior experience with meditation, music, or movement is required.

Dress comfortably and come ready to laugh.

What makes this unique?

Laraaji’s laughter meditation sessions are unlike traditional concerts, workshops, or meditation classes.

Developed over decades of spiritual practice, his “playshop” format blends music, humor, vocal expression, and meditation into a participatory experience that dissolves the usual boundaries between performer and audience.

Participants are not simply observing — they become part of the unfolding soundscape.

Part musical happening, part spiritual practice, and part collective joy experiment, Laraaji’s sessions offer a rare opportunity to experience the work of a living pioneer of ambient music in an intimate and interactive setting.
